Abdi Haji is the proud owner of Umoja na Uhuru World Farm. Abdi is originally from Somalia and has been farming with his family his whole life. Umoja na Uhrur World farms offers a wide variety of seasonal and unique produce. Umoja na Uhuru is also a Communtiy Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm and offers shares to members, who receive a fresh basket of seasonal produce each week.
Abdi begins to plant seeds in a greenhouse in late February and early March and moves the starts from the greenhouse to the 2.5 acre farm in Boise in late March. Abdi continues planting and rotating crops during the season. Umoja na Uruhu is a spray-free farm. Abdi waters and weeds by hand and never use sprays for insects or weeds. Harvests happen on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays for market sales and deliveries to CSA members. Umoja na Uruhu does accept EBT, and does donate excess to the Idaho Food Bank and the Boise Rescue Mission.
Abdi’s desire is to eat fresh food always and to teach others. Umoja na Uhuru World Farm helps to support Abdi, his wife and three daughters, as well as his community.
